Woodland Youth Lock-In – October 17-18, 2008

Woodland Youth (6th grade – 12th grade) will host a lock-in on Friday night until Saturday morning.  We will meet at the church at 7pm and attend a haunted trail of sorts here in Lexington, cost of this TBD soon.  (around $10)  After the haunted trail we will return to Woodland for fun and games throughout the night.  Woodland will provide pizza following the haunted trail, and youth are asked to provide either a two-liter of soda or a package of snacks (chips, cookies, fruit, goodies) to share with everyone.  Woodland will also provide doughnuts and juice on Saturday morning.  Please plan to be picked up no later than 9am on Saturday morning.  I have contacted Douglass Boulevard Christian Church about coming to this lock-in – and they will be able to let us know if this will be a joint event by tomorrow (Sunday the 12th).  I will send out an email tomorrow evening letting you know.  If Douglass Boulevard WILL NOT be participating each Woodland youth will be allowed to bring ONE FRIEND.  Your friend will also be responsible for the cost of the haunted trail and providing a snack to share.  Don’t forget games and or videos (age appropriate please) or anything else you want to do throughout the night!  And most importantly don’t forget the sleeping bag, pillow and personal items!

Woodland Fall Festival – October 26, 2008

Our annual Halloween Party/Fall Festival will be held Sunday, October 26th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.  All children (and adults!) are invited to wear their costumes to enjoy some safe “trick or treating” as well as some games and crafts.  If you are willing to participate in the games or if you can help with set-up or clean-up, please contact Marsha Charles (mcharles@aarepo.com) or Patrick Thompson.  We also need donations of candy which can be left at the church.  Fall is in the air!  We hope everyone will make plans to join us for a great night of family fellowship and fun at church!

CYFX:Light the Fire Tell the Story

November 7-9, 2008

For the last few years the region has held this event in Bowling Green – but this year it is in Louisville!  XP is an event to get together with your friends and meet new ones, and also gives youth a chance to participate in Mission Saturday.  On Saturday, participants will scatter out across Louisville to help with local service organizations.  Since we have so few youth that are in high school – I will permit youth to bring a friend to this event if they wish.  Karah Holbert will be attending as a part of the X-Committee and will have many fun and exciting responsibilities as a part of this leadership group.  I must know by THIS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15TH if you wish to attend this event and if you plan on bringing anyone other than yourself!!  Payment to Woodland will be due Sunday October 26th.  The event is $60 plus money to bring for dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday.  You will notice the event flyer (which I’ve attached to this email) says that breakfast on Saturday and Sunday will be “on your own,” however, the hotel we are staying at provides complimentary breakfast.  Woodland will be covering the cost of the hotel for this weekend.  We will meet on Friday and grab dinner on our way to the event, and then will have lunch on Saturday sometime during our time around Louisville.  Please don’t hesitate to ask me with any questions/concerns!

There has been a request that go to King’s Island this year!  With such a full fall schedule it was hard to find the time, but we can be going to Kings Island THE LAST WEEKEND THEY ARE OPEN!!  Please take a look at your calendar’s and let me know ASAP what your preference will be as far as heading to King’s Island.  We can either leave at 11am on Saturday November 1st and stay until about 7pm or we can leave following worship on Sunday November 2nd and leave when the park closes at 7pm.  Right now the cheapest tickets I have been able to find are $25.99 for adults and $19.99 for Jr/Sr. Discount – I’m still trying to determine the age cutoff for Jr.’s.  PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP IF YOU WOULD BE INTERESTED IN A KINGS ISLAND TRIP AND/OR WHAT DAY YOU WOULD PREFER TO GO TO KING’S ISLAND.  You will be allowed to bring ONE friend on this trip – they will be responsible for the price of their ticket and for anything they wish to purchase while they are there.
