Ministry Team

 

Rev. Dr. Lisa Davison, Senior Interim Minister

 

Dr. Davison is a native of Radford, VA. She is a 1988 graduate of Lynchburg College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Spanish and graduated Magna Cum Laude. In 1991 she was awarded a Master of Divinity Degree from Texas Christian University’s Brite Divinity School, and in 1996 a Masters of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University. Dr. Davison received her Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible from Vanderbilt in 1999.

 

During her seminary years, Dr. Davison served churches in Garland and Plano, Texas. She was ordained as minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Virginia and has served as Congregational Campus Ministry Developer for the Kentucky region. Just prior to joining the faculty of LTS in 1996, she served for a year as the Chaplain of Culver-Stockton College in Canton, MO. From March of 2003 until January of 2004, Dr. Davison served as the Interim Preacher for Kaleidoscope Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), an emerging congregation in the Kentucky Region.

 

Dr. Davison is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, Forrest-Moss, and Association of Disciples for Theological Discussion. She is often invited to speak to local congregations and retreats on topics of books in the First Testament, women in the bible, sexuality and the bible, and Christian use and misuse of the First Testament.

 

Dr. Davison enjoys traveling with her husband, Rev. Michael A. Davison, Jr., who serves on the regional ministry staff in Kentucky.

Laura Phillips, Student Associate Minister

 

    Laura is a Senior Master of Divinity student at Lexington Theological Seminary.  Originally from Kansas City, MO, Laura moved to Lexington, KY to pursue her M. Div and continue her journey in ministry.  Laura has received a Bachelors of Arts in International Studies and a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from the University of Missouri, and enjoys cheering on her Mizzou Tigers.  It’s been an adventure to have to learn how to cheer on these Kentucky Wildcats!  Laura enjoys spending time with her dog Sally and running around such a beautiful city.  Laura has been at Woodland since 2005 and performs a variety of tasks as the Student Associate, but primarily works with the youth group and the youth and children of Woodland.  If you have any questions concerning the Youth and Children at Woodland, please check out the youth webpage, or email Laura at woodland.laura@insightbb.com

John Roark, Music Director

 

    John has been Music Director at Woodland since October 2007and a church musician for over 20 years. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Western Kentucky University, a Master of Music Education degree from Murray State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky. John taught music in the public schools for six years. He currently directs SisterSound (Lexington’s Women’s Chorus), and the MedTones (UK Medical Center choir). Loretta A. Gomez-Haley, Secretary

 

   Loretta a native of Peekskill, New York has lived in Lexington for the past 12 years. She has been secretary at Woodland Christian Church since April of 2002.   Before coming to Woodland Loretta worked as an American Sign Language Interpreter for 20 years and taught American Sign Language at Kentucky State University in 2001 - 02. She has her Bachelor of Science from Eastern Kentucky University in Apparel Design and holds National Certification in Interpretation and Transliteration from the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf as well as from the National Association of the Deaf.
In her spare time Loretta can be found at a sewing machine. She has been married to Kevin for 30 years and is the proud mother of two daughters Adrienne DiPietro a Veterinary student at the University of Illinois and Tavia a Graphic Design major at Bluegrass Community and Technical College and equally proud mother-in-law of Anthony a graduate student and graduate assistant at Illinois State University.
