A Woodland pastor, the Rev. Hayes Farish, was instrumental in the founding of the Kentucky Council of Churches. The Council represents over 800,000 Christians in Kentucky and works in the area of Christian unity, peace and justice issues, and disaster recovery.

Disciples sponsor colleges and seminaries across the nation. Three are located in the Lexington area:
